Interior & Exterior Painting in Colts Neck

Colts Neck is a Monmouth County township with one ZIP code, 07722. It was created in 1847 as Atlantic Township, from parts of Freehold, Middletown and Shrewsbury townships, and took the name Colts Neck by referendum in 1962. The township has no public water or sewer, so most homes sit on lots of at least two, five or ten acres, and it has long been known for its horse farms. Its localities include Scobeyville, Phalanx, Montrose and Swimming River.

Census estimates for 2020 to 2024, from the American Community Survey, count about 3,700 homes in Colts Neck. The 1990s were the busiest decade, with 25 percent of them, and the 1960s and 1970s together account for 38 percent. Just under half, 47 percent, were built before 1980, and about 4 percent before 1940. The oldest buildings are farmhouses and outbuildings. The Laird and Company distillery in Scobeyville was listed on the National Register as a historic district in 2024, and the Probasco-Dittner Farmstead on Bucks Mill Road in 2006. The township's Historic Preservation Committee surveys and marks structures from 1875 and earlier, an advisory role. Colts Neck also has an Architectural Review Committee, so ask the township whether your project needs to go before it.

Acreage changes the scope of an exterior job. A Colts Neck property may have the main house plus a detached garage, a barn, a run-in shed and long lengths of fence, and each has its own substrate and exposure. We walk the whole property at the estimate so nothing is discovered halfway through. Barns and sheds with rough-sawn wood take a penetrating stain or a breathable coating rather than a film that traps moisture. Painted trim on the main house gets scraped back to sound paint, spot-primed and caulked, and we finish with premium Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore exterior coatings. Open fields mean full sun and wind on the south and west walls, which is where chalking and fading show first.

Many of those farm buildings and older houses predate 1978, which brings in the federal lead rule. Federal law, in the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, requires firm certification for paid work that disturbs over twenty square feet of exterior paint, or over six square feet in any one room, on housing built before 1978. NJ Painting Co. is not EPA Lead-Safe Certified. Where old paint has to be scraped or sanded past those limits, the job needs a contractor who is, and we will tell you so at the estimate.

Inside, we refinish cabinetry where replacement would be a shame, repaint large interiors, and coat garages and workshops in epoxy. NJ Painting Co. is a family-owned company based next door in Morganville, and every Colts Neck estimate is free.

“Matt and his team of professional painters did a wonderful job painting the entire interior and the front of my home. They arrived as scheduled and completed the work as promised. After completing the work, Matt returned to make sure we were completely satisfied and had the men touch up any missed spots. Since they did a great job, we decided to have them paint the remaining exterior, Highly recommended!”
