North Arlington sits in the southwest corner of Bergen County, bordered by Lyndhurst, Kearny across the county line in Hudson, and Belleville across the Passaic River in Essex. The borough was incorporated in 1896 and covers about two and a half square miles. It grew fast in a short time. About 1,800 people lived here in 1920, more than 8,000 by 1930, and nearly 16,000 by 1950. The housing reflects that: blocks of 1920s houses, then the capes, colonials and two-family homes that filled the rest of the borough after the war, with Ridge Road as the commercial spine. Holy Cross Cemetery covers about 208 acres, close to an eighth of the borough, and the land along the river holds Riverside County Park.
Many exteriors here started as wood clapboard or shingle and have since been covered with aluminum or vinyl siding, plus painted wood trim, porches and stairs. Aluminum siding of that age tends to chalk heavily. We wash it, test that the new coating will bond, and use a primer suited to the metal before any finish goes on. Vinyl can be painted too, but only in a color no darker than the manufacturer allows, or the panels can warp in summer sun. On the wood trim and porches, peeling paint is usually a moisture problem first, so we look for the cause, replace rotted boards and seal the joints before painting.
Two-family houses are common in North Arlington and they bring their own planning. An exterior repaint has to work around two households' doors and schedules, and an interior job is often a turnover between tenants, where the owner needs walls, ceilings and trim done quickly and cleanly so the unit can be rented again. We write the scope by unit and by surface so you can see exactly what each part costs. Most houses here were built before 1978, so we follow lead-safe practices on older trim and windows as standard: containment, wet scraping, HEPA cleanup and daily cleaning.
Inside, house painting in North Arlington tends to be whole-floor repaints, kitchens where the cabinet boxes are sound but the finish is worn, and oak floors hiding under carpet that are worth refinishing. Basements and garages can take an epoxy coating that stands up to water and winter salt. NJ Painting Co. is a family-owned company based in Morganville in Monmouth County, and we travel north for jobs in Bergen County. We are licensed and fully insured and use premium Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams products. Every estimate is free and written, and the work carries a two-year workmanship warranty.
