Rahway was incorporated as a city in 1858 and covers about four square miles along the Rahway River, between Clark, Linden and Woodbridge Township. It has long been a manufacturing town. The Regina music box company and the Wheatena cereal plant both operated here, and Merck has been in Rahway since 1903. Downtown has been rebuilt over the past few decades as an arts district around the Union County Performing Arts Center, which occupies the restored 1928 Rahway Theatre, with new apartment buildings near the train station. The Merchants and Drovers Tavern on St. Georges Avenue has buildings dating to 1795. Around downtown, the residential streets are mostly older single-family and two-family houses, with later neighborhoods farther out.
Industrial and commercial floors are their own kind of job. A warehouse, shop or production floor needs a coating chosen for what actually happens on it: forklift and pallet-jack traffic, chemicals, standing water, or hot tires. Preparation decides whether an epoxy floor lasts, so we start by checking the slab for moisture and old coatings, then grind the concrete to open it up, repair cracks and spalls, and lay down a primer, a high-build epoxy body coat and a topcoat suited to the use, with broadcast aggregate where people need grip. We schedule this kind of work around shifts and weekends, and we put cure times in the plan so the floor is not put back into service too early. The same approach, on a smaller scale, gives a home garage or basement a floor that cleans up easily.
The river shapes residential work too. The Rahway River has flooded the city more than once, including during Hurricane Irene in 2011, and houses near it deal with damp basements and walls that stay wet long after rain. On those homes we look for moisture before quoting paint, wash and treat mildew, replace soft wood rather than caulking it, and use moisture-tolerant primers in basements. Much of Rahway's older housing predates 1978, so we follow lead-safe practices on painted trim and siding as standard: containment, wet scraping, HEPA cleanup and a daily clean-down.
Inside, we repaint full homes and apartments, refinish kitchen cabinets and hardwood floors, and paint storefronts, offices and multi-family common areas around tenants and business hours. NJ Painting Co. is a family-owned company based in Morganville, Monmouth County, and we travel to Rahway for jobs. We are licensed and fully insured, every estimate is free and written, and the work carries a two-year workmanship warranty.
