Interior & Exterior Painting in East Windsor

East Windsor is a Mercer County township of about fifteen and a half square miles, split from Windsor Township in 1797 and incorporated in 1798 as one of New Jersey's first 104 townships. It completely surrounds the separate borough of Hightstown, which was carved out of East Windsor land in 1853. Most of the township uses ZIP code 08520, which covers about nine-tenths of its land; the rest falls in 08512.

The township is also home to Twin Rivers, which the township describes as New Jersey's first planned unit development. Building began in 1969, after the state's Planned Unit Development Act of 1967 let East Windsor set aside its minimum lot and street sizes so homes could sit close together. Twin Rivers is divided into four sections, known as quads, two on each side of Route 33, and the community has its own trust, the Twin Rivers Community Trust. If you live in Twin Rivers or any other association-run development, check its exterior rules for doors, trim and siding colors before work is scheduled; an association can require approval first.

East Windsor's homes are mostly from the decades of that growth. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2020 to 2024 counts about 12,400 homes and dates 26 percent of them to the 1970s and 20 percent to the 1960s, the two busiest decades. The 1980s added 14 percent and the 2000s 13 percent. Altogether 60 percent were built before 1980, and only about 4 percent before 1940.

That profile shapes the work. In townhouses and split-levels from the 1960s and 1970s, the trim is often on its fourth or fifth coat, so we sand and spot-prime where old enamel has chipped, and patch the drywall cracks and nail pops that decades of settling leave behind. Shared walls and tight stairwells mean careful masking and furniture protection. Kitchens of that era respond well to cabinet refinishing with a sprayed enamel, and garages take epoxy floor coatings. We use premium Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams products throughout. For the 60 percent built before 1980, federal lead rules come into play. The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule requires a certified firm whenever paid work disturbs more than six square feet of paint in a room, or more than twenty square feet on the exterior, of a home built before 1978. NJ Painting Co. is not EPA Lead-Safe Certified; if your East Windsor project crosses those limits, it needs a certified contractor, and we will point that out at the estimate.

NJ Painting Co. is family-owned and based in Morganville, in Monmouth County. Every East Windsor estimate is free and comes with a written scope.

Check before you book. Twin Rivers, New Jersey's first planned unit development, began in 1969 and is divided into four quads with its own community trust, and an association can set its own rules on exterior colors for doors, trim and siding. Ask the association what it requires before the work is scheduled. Interior painting and cabinet refinishing do not change the outside of the house.

The 1960s and 1970s.
