Interior & Exterior Painting in Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a Monmouth County township on Raritan Bay. It was incorporated in 1857 as Matavan Township, the spelling became Matawan in 1882, and voters chose the name Aberdeen in 1977. Most of the township lies in ZIP code 07747, which it shares with Matawan borough, with the rest in 07735 and in 07721, the Cliffwood ZIP. Its named sections include Cliffwood, Cliffwood Beach and Strathmore, and the Aberdeen-Matawan station on NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line sits on the borough line.

Strathmore set the pattern for much of the township. The Matawan Historical Society records that Levitt and Sons came to the Matawan Township Planning Board in April 1961 with plans for a large development in the southeast corner, offering five models: a Cape Cod, a ranch, two Colonials and a one-and-a-half-story Country Clubber. By late 1962 about 1,300 units were under construction. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2020 to 2024 counts about 8,200 homes in Aberdeen and dates 30 percent of them to the 1960s alone, the busiest decade by far. In all, 60 percent were built before 1980, while 12 percent date from the 2010s.

The bay is the other half of the story. A New Jersey Department of Community Affairs recovery report describes about two miles of Raritan Bay shoreline, and says Sandy damaged the Cliffwood Beach seawall, dunes and walkway, with most of the 26 substantially damaged properties in the Cliffwood Beach area and along Matawan Creek. Close to the water, wind-driven moisture and salt are why we wash siding and let it dry, scrape loose paint back to a sound edge and spot-prime bare wood before any finish coat. A house from the early 1960s typically needs interior walls and ceilings repainted, kitchen cabinets refinished, and exterior trim, fascia and doors that have been painted many times brought back to a sound surface. We found no local historic district in the township, so on a private house the color is the owner's choice. If you live in a townhouse or condominium community, check the association's rules first.

Six homes in ten predating 1980 means the federal lead rule comes up often. Under the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, a paid contractor who disturbs more than six square feet of paint in a room, or more than twenty square feet outside, on a home built before 1978 must be certified. NJ Painting Co. is not EPA Lead-Safe Certified, so on an older Aberdeen house where sanding or scraping would go past those amounts, we will tell you at the estimate that the work needs a certified firm.

We use premium Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams products, and garages here often get an epoxy floor that stands up to road salt. NJ Painting Co. is a family-owned company based in Morganville, and every Aberdeen estimate is free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about estimates, scheduling, and getting your home or business professionally painted.

Because of Strathmore. Levitt and Sons brought its plan to the Matawan Township Planning Board in April 1961, with a Cape Cod, a ranch, two Colonials and a Country Clubber among the models, and about 1,300 units were under construction by late 1962. The 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey dates 30 percent of Aberdeen's roughly 8,200 homes to the 1960s, and 60 percent to before 1980.

It changes the prep. The state's Sandy recovery report for Aberdeen describes about two miles of Raritan Bay shoreline and puts most of the township's 26 substantially damaged properties in Cliffwood Beach and along Matawan Creek. Near the bay we wash and dry the siding, scrape back to sound paint and spot-prime bare wood before the finish coats go on.
