Piscataway was formed in 1666, which makes it the fifth-oldest municipality in New Jersey. The early houses are still there. The Metlar-Bodine House, now the township's history museum, has sections dating to 1728, and the Cornelius Low House on the Raritan bluff was built in 1741. Most of the nineteen square miles, though, is twentieth-century suburb. Rutgers University's Busch and Livingston campuses take up a large part of the township, along with SHI Stadium, and the neighborhoods around them were mostly built after the Second World War, with names like North Stelton, New Market, Possumtown and Newtown. Today about sixty thousand people live here. That range, from colonial stone and frame houses to 1990s colonials, is why our free estimate in Piscataway starts with when and how your house was built.
Most of the township's houses are capes, ranches, split-levels and bi-levels from the 1950s through the 1970s, with newer developments filling in afterward. Their exteriors fail in predictable places: painted wood trim, soffits and fascia around siding that was replaced or covered decades ago, aluminum siding that has chalked down and needs washing and an adhesion test, and vinyl that needs a vinyl-safe color so it won't warp. We prep each surface for what it is instead of spraying one product over the whole house, and finish with premium Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams exterior systems. Anything built before 1978 gets lead-safe handling: containment, wet scraping, HEPA cleanup and a site cleaned every day.
Rental property is common near the university, and turnovers have their own deadlines. We can repaint a unit, refinish its hardwood and touch up the kitchen in one visit, so it is ready for the next tenant without three separate trades to schedule. For owner-occupied homes the work is the usual list for a family house: whole-floor interior repaints, two-story foyers in the newer subdivisions, ceilings, and cabinet refinishing on solid original kitchens. Our guide to cabinet refinishing versus painting versus refacing sets out the costs of each.
Garages and basements get hard use here, and an epoxy floor gives a sealed surface that stands up to winter road salt. The offices, warehouses and retail along the Route 287 and Route 18 corridors are what our commercial crews handle, working after hours so nobody loses a working day. NJ Painting Co. is family-owned and based in Morganville, licensed and fully insured, with more than twenty years in the trade. Every Piscataway estimate is free, includes a color consultation, and the work carries a two-year workmanship warranty.
