Cliffside Park is one of the most densely built towns in Bergen County: about 25,700 people at the 2020 census on less than one square mile at the top of the Hudson Palisades. It was incorporated in 1895. Palisade Avenue runs along the edge of the cliff with views of the Hudson and Manhattan, and Anderson Avenue runs parallel to it inland. For most of the twentieth century the borough was known for Palisades Amusement Park, which operated from 1898 until 1971 on land shared with Fort Lee. After it closed the site was redeveloped with high-rise apartments, including the two 31-story Winston Towers buildings completed in the 1970s. Away from the cliff edge the borough was already well built up early on, with more than fifteen thousand residents by 1930.
That gives a painting company in Cliffside Park two quite different kinds of work. In the high-rise condos and co-ops the job is almost entirely interior: walls, ceilings, doors and trim in units that are lived in, often with a tight schedule before a sale or a move-in. Building associations commonly ask for a certificate of insurance before work starts and set rules on elevator use and working hours, and we plan around them. We protect floors and furniture, keep dust down, and use low-odor premium paints so the unit can be lived in while we work. Smooth, even walls matter in bright high-rise rooms, where strong window light shows every patch, so we skim and prime repairs before the finish coats.
The older houses on the side streets are a different job. Many are one- and two-family homes from the early and middle twentieth century, with brick, stucco, wood or aluminum siding, and painted trim from before 1978. Exteriors near the edge of the Palisades take wind and weather straight off the river, and the exposed walls chalk and peel faster than sheltered ones, so we scope them separately and prep accordingly. On older trim and windows we follow lead-safe practices: containment, wet scraping and HEPA cleanup. Lots are narrow and houses close together, so we plan ladder placement and protection of the neighbor's property before the first day.
Inside the houses, the usual requests are full interior repaints, refinishing kitchen cabinets with sound boxes, and sanding and refinishing hardwood floors. NJ Painting Co. is a family-owned company based in Morganville in Monmouth County, and we travel north to Bergen County for jobs. We are licensed and fully insured and use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams products. Every Cliffside Park estimate is free and written, includes a color consultation, and the work carries a two-year workmanship warranty.
